Diet drinks are low in calories because they use artificial sweeteners instead of sugar, and calories are the enemy of dieters, so naturally dieters choose diet soft drinks over regular soft drinks, which does contain sugar, which equates to high calories.
But there lies the problem, you choose diet drinks to quench your thirst, but now you crave even more sugary foods. Why? Because even though you might have avoided the calories by drinking a diet drink, the sweetener contained has the same effect on our receptors in our digestive organs, causing us to crave more sweetness.
So diet drinks are not really a dieters ally after all, but the enemy in disguise. However Pepsi think they have come up with a drink that dieters will love, a soft drink that blocks fat and helps you lose weight.
Here’s details of what iol.co.za published about the drink.
A Soft Drink That Blocks Fat And Help You Lose Weight
If you are watching your weight, but diet soft drinks have never been to your taste, there could now be an alternative.
Pepsi has launched a version of its cola drink that it claims acts as a fat blocker.
Pepsi Special is made with dextrin – an indigestible form of dietary fibre. Studies on rats suggest this can reduce the absorption of fat in the body and lower cholesterol levels.
There is no information available about how much sugar and corn syrup Pepsi Special contains, compared to standard Pepsi, but a spokesman said it had a “crisp refreshing and unique” aftertaste.
The drink, which is first being sold in Japan, comes in a “luxury” gold and black bottle with the Pepsi logo on the side. Read the full article here.
Lets hope this drink is all that they claim it to be. If you are anything like I, you do enjoy a soft drink from time to time, especially when dining out. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see and hopefully it doesn’t come with any unwanted side effects.
